Rick Stein Heads Back to Bannisters Port Stephens … This Time as Your Dinner Companion

Rick Stein Australian Stories

Does your idea of a perfect coastal escape involve eating extremely well, drinking something nice and listening to a legendary chef tell stories over dinner? (Same). Well, you’re in luck! Because we have the tea (well, the margs) and, one Mr Rick Stein has a pretty tempting proposition.

From 19 to 21 August, the seafood-hearting chef is bringing his love of Aussie sea fare to life with Rick Stein: Australian Stories – a one-off Port Stephens collab that combines food, wine, coastal cruising and the kind of stories you usually only hear after the cameras stop rolling.

The experience kicks off with an intimate dinner hosted by Rick and wifey Sas Stein. And, features fancy canapes, a three-course menu with matched wines, and plenty of conversation about the places, flavours and experiences that have shaped their lives.

Next, because no great Australian coastal escape is complete without getting out on the water, guests will also board the historic 1920s ferry The Wangi Queen for a relaxed cruise through Port Stephens. Expect sea breezes, spectacular views and the chance to see the coastline that has inspired so much of Rick’s work.

Then it’s time to swap seafood for something with a little more spice, with Mexican-inspired drinks and snacks at Julio’s – the perfect excuse to keep the weekend rolling.

Guests who lock it in will also spend two nights at Bannisters Port Stephens, enjoy daily breakfast and join every dining experience, with the biggest draw being the chance to sit down with Rick and Sas as they share stories in a setting that feels like dinner at a friend’s table … if that friend had spent 40 years travelling the world in search of the next great fish dish
